Nine Twenty Technology are assisting on the recruitment of a Performance Engineer for our Edinburgh based Client. As Performance Engineer you will be working within a highly-capable team of Software Engineers and Business Analysts.

The successful Performance Engineer will be instrumental in improving team performance across design, development, testing and consulting, to help to avoid customer escalations and meet/exceed industry standard response times.

The Role:

As Oracle Database Performance Engineer, you will be responsible for the analysis of PL/SQL and SQL performance problems.  You will take ownership for the hands-on fixing of performance problems in PL/SQL and SQL as well as domain-specific languages.  In addition, you will performance test batch and Web applications, to include response times, scalability (load tests) amd network bandwith requirements.

  • Ability to demonstrate technical communication skills as writing of technical documentations, specification of tests, etc.
  • The ability to work closely with customers, especially onsite work at customer premises

Essential Qualifications & Experience:

  • Experience in the design and development of high-performance PL/SQL applications. Full-stack testing and development
  • Experience in Oracle database profiling / performance monitoring
  • Deep understanding of Oracle database, OS, and I/O performance concepts

Desirable Experience:

  • Experience with Web applications (JEE)
  • Infrastructure sizing / capacity planning
  • Experience with a tool in each of the following domains is desirable:
  • PL/SQL hierarchical profiler and dbms_profiler
  • SQL tracing, tkprof, and dbms_xplan
  • AWR, ASH, and ADDM
  • OS and I/O monitoring: e.g., vmstat, iostat, DTrace, nmon, sar, top
  • Test automation and load generation: e.g., unit testing framework, JMeter
