An exclusive opportunity is available for an IT Operator to join a growing tech firm based in Edinburgh city centre on a temporary basis. Our client specialises in energy management technology and are now looking to expand their team by two!

The role is a varied one but focuses on operating an in-house asset monitoring system. You will respond to system alerts and telecommunication faults, resolving issues directly or escalating them to senior staff or clients. You will also be required to perform tasks including:  analysis of performance data (using Microsoft Excel); creating and updating documentation of procedures; ad-hoc data gathering and data entry tasks.

The successful candidate will be confident in a computerised environment and will ideally have a background in computer hardware or programming. Given that you will be discussing technical matters with clients and colleagues, communication skills are an important part of this role.

Skills/experience should include most of the following:

  • Understanding of computer hardware and IT skills with a high level of Excel and MS office
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to learn new skills and acquire new knowledge such us basic technical understanding of IT systems
  • The ability to multitask, be methodical and remain calm through any crisis situation
  • Understanding of engineering or a mathematical science
  • Programming skills (any language) would be beneficial but are not mandatory
  • Ability to speak a second European language would be beneficial but are not mandatory
  • Shift working and night working experience are beneficial

Please note:

You will be offered a rota of a minimum of 35 hours per week, which will be averaged over the financial year.  Your average working week will be made up of a minimum of two, 12 hour shifts, as part of a rota with other Operators providing desk cover 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Your basic pay will be £9.15 per hour (+25% shift allowance).
