Nine Twenty are pleased to be working with a fantastic client, who are looking to add a Head of UX to their team for the Edinburgh or Glasgow Location!

The client, who reside in the Medical Space, have a great opportunity for an individual to head up our UX team!  As Head of UX, you will be responsible for UX/UI concepts across projects and platforms and drive the UX process for the entire department and organization as a whole. You will be tasked with leading and providing systems-level design thinking, and vision for the UX team, playing an instrumental role in enabling the team to design new experiences.

You will work closely with the Engineering and Product Management (PM) teams, connecting all three groups while identifying team needs with regards to process, tools, documentation, and asset management, driving required changes to make sure designers are working at optimum efficiency.

You’ll be:

  • Managing resources, schedules, processes and priorities of the design activities for multiple simultaneous projects efficiently
  • Leading a team of 4 to 10 people and setting far-seeing design plans and design work guidelines for new projects based on having a deep understanding of user needs, business goals and technical limitations
  • Working at the early concept phase by facilitating ideation sessions, storyboarding, brainstorming, creating user scenarios, and sketching early stage mock-ups
  • Producing design briefs, information architecture diagrams, wireframes, interaction flows, low-fi prototypes and other artefacts required to develop and evolve user experience design
  • Implementing Office visual design language (including grid, typography, color and other design-language patterns) for the products and be delivering visual assets (icons, logos, layout redlines, screen mock-ups, hi-fi prototypes) to development counterparts on time and with quality, in accordance with agile methodology
  • Communicating the design plans, ideas, concepts and solutions to peers, partners and stakeholders efficiently
  • Working with product managers to collect or interpret user feedback and telemetry data, and incorporate findings into design solutions
  • Responsible for maintaining good morale and ensuring healthy growth of the team
  • Helping to define the user model and user interface for new and existing products and feature
  • Pushing creativity, challenging established thinking, and discovering new ways of approaching (and solving) a problem
  • Responsible for and effectively advocate for users to foster a shared understanding of the user-centric intersection between design, content, business, and engineering
  • Collaborating with and developing mutual respect and trust with product managers, engineers, researchers and designers

You’ll bring:

  • A Design related Degree
  • Proven industry experience designing products that have shipped into high-volume market
  • An understanding of the execution side of design, as well as, the business aspects of the product
  • Effective leadership, communication and teamwork skills
  • Demonstrated ability to multitask, analyse opportunities, define successful approaches and proactively solve problems
  • Uncanny sense for clean design, you are an advocate for the user, and you are committed to creating elegantly simple user experiences from otherwise complex workflows
  • Experience managing interactive, design, or creative projects
  • The ability to mentor, inspire, grow, and retain all levels of designers
  • Strong persuasion, communication, and presentation skills and the ability to make compelling and clear design presentations for colleagues, stakeholders and senior management
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Strong interaction design and information architecture experience
  •  Demonstrated knowledge of user-centred design processes and iterative development processes (Lean UX, Agile, etc.)
  • A strong sense of focus and excellent attention to detail while working in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience of drafting design guidelines to define common patterns and visual styles for new project
  •  Expert level proficiency with common design tools (Illustrator, Photoshop, After Effects, Axure etc.). HTML, CSS3 and JavaScript knowledge would be huge plus
  • Ability to quickly produce elegant and easily understood diagrams, wireframes, and other artefacts
  • Passion and skills for taking research findings and translating them into tangible designs
