The DevOps Engineer will be responsible for the design and implementation of our product test automation and continuous build platform.

We have an on premises, organically developed build and test operation. We need to replace this with a modern, fit for purpose, ideally cloud based SaaS as the platform for our continuous build and product test automation.

The role needs to work closely with the Software Development and Architecture teams to deliver continuous integration and continuous deployment/delivery processes, test automation, tools and infrastructure to enable faster, safer and secure code releases.

Lead on, and make recommendations regarding strategic aspirations to move the development processes into the cloud. After assessing our requirements select tooling implement appropriate tooling (technologies such as Chef, Docker, Puppet, Maven, Artifactory, Jenkins, TeamCity,Ansible )

The successful candidate will initially need to audit existing systems, and gather requirements from development, architecture and testing interests. Some degree of documentation / diagramming of existing systems may be needed. Requirements will need to be refined into achievable technical goals and prioritised with the aid of the team.

For each goal, technical options will need to be researched and presented to the team, and one option chosen. An upgrade path, work plan and time scale should documented and agreed with the business, with an acceptable level of disruption agreed with the team. Implementation will follow, with periodic reviews. After implementation, the outcome will need to be reviewed. Then the list of outstanding business requirements, technical goals and priorities should be reviewed, before proceeding to research and present options for the next goal.
