The main purpose of the job holder will be to take the full responsibility for technically leading the business, contributing to the Company’s commercial strategy as we transition to a largely recurring revenue based business model.

In the following areas the Chief Technology Officer will:

Solution Development:

  • Serve as a technical expert representative across teams, clients, and the information technology industry
  • Understand the technical architecture and development roadmap of all our products and platforms
  • Provide a technical input to overall business strategy to ensure that our products are as up to date and technically consistent as possible
  • Contribute to tenders and business development activity to identify creative technical solutions and unique selling points which will commercially enhance our proposition
  • Ensure technical solutions are designed to meet requirements more effectively, and/or with greater reusability, and/or longer life

Technical Effort Management

  • Promote and coordinate technical knowledge harvesting within the organisation
  • Oversee technical standards
  • Promote high standards of architecture, processes and coding – to maximise quality, efficiency, security and scalability
  • Provide technical oversight across multiple technical teams and locations to facilitate performance within budgets and project schedules
  • Track and identify new opportunities to improve our methodology and training offerings
  • Assist in strategic sales efforts from a technical perspective
  • Consistently deliver high quality services to our clients

Technical Expertise – possess significant knowledge of:

  • At least the current Microsoft technology stack and tool chain – SQL Server, C#, .NET, Visual Studio, TFS
  • Complex database concepts and design – both relational and non-relational
  • Modern web-based application architecture and technology including server- and browser-centric (eg MVC, EF, JS-based UI frameworks such as AngularJS)
  • Engineering for scalability and availability – redundancy, resilience, failover
  • Contemporary project lifecycle concepts eg SCRUM
  • Contemporary system design concepts eg OO, dependency injection
  • Contemporary system test concepts eg TDD, automated testing
  • Contemporary system lifecycle concepts eg automated deployment
  • Platform based business models and concepts

Communication

  • Interact well with a wide variety of personnel, in a mature and professional manner
  • Promote us through speaking engagements at industry conferences and involvement in local business organisations
  • Write white papers on chosen technical expertise, or speak at industry events

Teamwork

  • Reinforce team approach through development efforts
  • Support and solicit input from team members at all levels within the organisation
  • Work effectively with the CEO and senior team across all business functions to both represent the technical perspectives to the wider business and the business objectives to the technical team
  • Mentor key technical staff
  • Create an environment where personal goals and innovation can successfully align with the objectives of the organisation

  • Communicate with clients to identify needs and evaluate technical solutions and strategies
  • Continually define ways to increase customer satisfaction and deepen client relationships
  • Maintain lasting client relationships
  • Ensure that we consistently deliver superior technical solutions to clients

Personal:

  • Able to work additional hours when circumstances require
  • Able to travel and stay away from home occasionally
  • Willingness to undergo security checking if required

  • A background in bespoke software would be useful
  • Educated to degree level
  • Exposure to a variety of different systems and business environments
  • An understanding of ISO standards implementation and audit
  • Experience of working with direct interaction with clients, external organisations and senior management/ board level
