Bird.i is a rapidly growing “big data from space” start-up, backed by private investors. Our mission is to make the world’s most incredible satellite images – and the insights they bring – accessible to absolutely everyone. We have created a simple to use portal to access satellite imagery, and we also have an in-house machine learning team creating AI to provide satellite imagery analysis, giving our customers a range of insights across a variety of sectors.

We are seeking a Business Development Manager to join our growing commercial team. As the first dedicated BD/Sales position at Bird.i, this is a great opportunity for someone to take charge of a strategy and implementation, bring and realise their own ideas, and really make their mark.

Reporting to the Commercial Director, the role will require a variety of B2B business development skills, from converting smaller inbound leads, to prospecting and closing large enterprise clients – as well as seeking new markets and verticals for Bird.i’s products. This is predominantly an office-based role, although some travel will be required for client meetings and events.


  • Handle the sales cycle from start to finish on both inbound and outbound enquiries
  • Day to day management of existing clients
  • Managing the sales CRM (HubSpot)
  • Visiting customers and pitching as required
  • Drive the evolution of the sales cycle as the business evolves
  • Work closely with marketing on the website and sales funnels
  • Research industry-related topics and competitors
  • Create and manage sales collateral
  • Identify customers’ evolving needs and recommend new topics and content for marketing
  • Achieve sales targets

General profile and requirements:

  • At least 5 years’ experience in B2B software sales
  • Track record of meeting or exceeding sales targets
  • B2B Account management experience
  • Experienced in selling both directly and via channels
  • Strategic thinker, able to bring new ideas to business
  • High degree of commercial acumen, able to formulate pricing models and strategy
  • Experience of running sales analysis and forecasting reports
  • Can demonstrate an understanding of marketing principles, and is used to working closely with marketing
  • Highly organised and used to working in a face paced environment
  • Able to manage sales CRM (HubSpot)
  • Technically savvy
  • Excellent written and oral English
  • Accomplished presenter
  • Experience of working in a start-up environment would be beneficial, but not essential
  • Experience of AI also beneficial
