Hi Alan! Can you tell us a little about your background, and how you came to work for Amici?
I’m a Software Engineer with over twenty years’ experience in IT and software development.  I’ve worked for the Fire Service, and then joined a globally renowned renewable energy consultancy as a Senior Software Engineer on a wind power SCADA system.  These roles were very fluid, allowing me to refine my skills and experience to take on my next exciting challenge at Amici as Senior Developer in January 2018.  After an extremely enjoyable first year, I was appointed Development Manager to lead the Development Team.

What does your role in the business entail?

I work alongside Caroline our CEO as part of the Leadership Team to shape the direction of the business and ensure that our grand plans fit the company’s goals and aspirations.   As Development Manager, my primary role is to own the development and deployment of processes associated with our market-leading procurement solution.

Can you tell us about any projects you're working on at the moment?

It’s a really exciting time for our product.  We are about to release an extension to our Inventory Product to facilitate product barcoding and cycle counting.  At the same time, we’re kicking off a major project to revolutionise the findability of products on the system involving every area of the company, and this will see us moving into new areas of data science and bring new technology into our development processes.  The Findability Project will hopefully lead us to a complete overhaul of the eProcurement module ushering in the next major version of the software.

You are currently recruiting in your team, can you tell us about the new roles?

To make the leap onto the next major system version we are looking to expand our Development Team with a new .Net Developer role, and the individual we are looking for will bring exciting new ideas and technology to the product as we move to advance our responsive user interfaces.  This expansion also includes the creation of a brand new UI/UX Designer role. This is an exciting new direction for Amici, and the successful candidate will have the opportunity to define and own the user experience process from product discovery to user story mapping.

What's your favourite thing about your job?
My job is very busy and varied with no two days the same. Unfortunately for my team, I still actively participate in designing and writing code too, hanging on to a little of my Senior Developer role!

What are the benefits of working for a business like Amici?

Amici is filled with young aspirational professionals, working together to make the world a little bit better. The enthusiasm in the office is like nothing I have seen before, all flowing down from our CEO.  This creates a great atmosphere with a lot of laughter and a lot of hard work.

What do you like to do when you’re not at the office?
During the summer, I spend an inordinate amount of time on the bowling green. When I’m not bowling, I like to drag my family out for long walks, enjoying some Arts & Crafts or can be found doing anything from wood carving to painting!
